Five Hair-Dos from the Expressions Family

Updated: May 26, 2022

There are a few things hairstylists wish all their clients knew, and we want you in on the secrets. We think you’ll be surprised by how easy they are! Here are five tips that will help you maintain your hair color and allow it to grow stronger.

One. Use good products and tools. Seems easy, right? Sometimes that requires thinking ahead, though. Instead of waiting until you’re completely out of shampoo, make sure you grab a new bottle at your appointment so you don’t have to use something from the grocery store. Expressions is an exclusive Paul Mitchell distributor, so our products are always guaranteed. You won’t get that with something off the shelf. Tools are important too. If you’ve had your flat iron longer than you care to admit, consider an upgrade. New hair tools make the perfect Christmas and birthday gifts!

Two. Keep up your appointments. Your hair does best if it is colored every 4-6 weeks and if you aren’t coloring, a trim every 6-8 weeks is so important. Without trims, your hair cannot continue to grow. If you need to reschedule, we are happy to help either on the phone or through our online scheduler, VIGARO.

Three. Don’t over wash. We don’t want you walking around like your water is out, but washing too frequently can strip your hair of the good oils it needs to grow and shine. Every day is probably too often, but use your best judgment as washing is different for everyone depending on texture, length and even color. Ask your hair care specialist at Expressions what is perfect for you!

Four. Be gentle. Just because your hair seems strong doesn’t mean you need to test it. When brushing, don’t pull too hard. Scrub your scalp, but don’t be as rough on your hair itself. Hold tight at the roots when brushing the ends so you don’t pull out more than necessary. (Note it is totally fine to lose hair everyday)

Five. Protect from the sun. We hear about protecting our skin from the sun all the time, but rarely is hair mentioned. Make sure you are covering your hair with a scarf or hat if you are going to be directly in the sun for an extended period of time. The sun can damage your hair and dull your color. There are also protectants you can spray on like a hair sunscreen.

Following these five hair-dos as well as any other specific advice from your stylist will make all the difference. We want you to have the strongest and most beautiful hair you can. Don’t forget to let us know if you have any other specific hair-dos in the comments!
